LC Students join World Blood Donors Day

Select students of Lourdes College donated blood during the Blood Letting Activity Center in celebration of the World Blood Donors Day. The said event was organized by the Cagayan de Oro City Blood Council in cooperation with the Philippine Red Cross of which the safe blood will help address the needs of the patients of JR Borja General Hospital.

The activity was in consonance with the birth anniversary of Karl Landsteiner, who discovered human blood groups; countries all over the world are encouraged to celebrate World Blood Donor Day by holding major activities to create awareness among people about the importance of donating blood, and by setting up blood service facilities for the day for qualified blood donors.

This year’s theme was “blood connects us all.” The theme focuses on how everyone in this world relies on blood in order to sustain their life. Nurse Mary Ann Escobal celebrated the day by calling all qualified and available Lourdesian blood donors to find it in their heart to participate in such a worthwhile activity. In response’ a number of Lourdesians showed their altruistic side by participating. These students came from the HRM, Nursing, and BUSACC-IT.

Lourdes College wasn’t alone in supporting the event; among others were the Philippine Army, civic groups and government employees also came to donate blood in order to save lives. Mayor Oscar “Oca” S. Moreno, Mayor of Cagayan de Oro City, also came to support and encouraged to be part of this worthy cause. This activity too was part of the celebration of the 66th Charter Day of Cagayan de Oro City dubbed as “Himugso”.
